Privacy Policy
Last updated: 24 June 2026
Poptonium is a Plex client for browsing and casting your own media. We built it to keep you in control of your data: there are no Poptonium accounts, we don't sell your information, and we don't show ads. This policy explains what little data the app handles and why.
Who we are
This policy covers the Poptonium mobile app ("the app", "we", "us"). For any privacy question, contact us at support@poptonium.app.
Information the app handles
Plex account and your servers
To work as a Plex client, the app signs you in through Plex and connects to the Plex Media Servers you have access to. Your Plex authentication token and the addresses of your servers are stored on your device and used only to communicate with those servers. We do not receive, store, or have access to your Plex credentials or your media. Your relationship with Plex is governed by Plex's privacy policy.
Crash and diagnostic data
To keep the app stable, we use Google Firebase Crashlytics and Google Analytics for Firebase. When the app crashes or to understand basic usage, these tools collect limited diagnostic information such as:
- crash reports and stack traces;
- device model, operating-system version, and app version;
- a randomly generated installation identifier and anonymized in-app events (e.g. which screens are opened);
- approximate, coarse region derived from your IP address (the IP itself is not retained by us).
We use this data only to diagnose crashes, fix bugs, and improve the app. It is processed by Google as our service provider; see Firebase's privacy and security information and the Google Privacy Policy. This data is not used to identify you personally and is never sold.
Optional self-hosted server
Features such as the owner-curated layout, ratings, the popular feed, in-app search/requests and subtitles are powered by the optional Poptonium server, which you host and control. When enabled, the app sends requests (for example, the title you're viewing) to that server so it can return the matching data. Because you run that server, any data it processes stays under your control. We do not operate a server on your behalf and receive none of this traffic.
What we do not do
- We don't create Poptonium accounts or ask for your name, email, or payment details to use the app.
- We don't sell or rent your personal information.
- We don't use your data for advertising, and the app contains no third-party ad networks.
- We don't access your media library, watch history, or Plex credentials.
Your choices
You can stop diagnostic data collection at any time by uninstalling the app. On the device level you can also limit ad/usage tracking through your iOS or Android privacy settings. To ask a question about your data, email support@poptonium.app.
Data retention
Data stored on your device (such as your Plex token and settings) remains until you sign out or uninstall the app. Crash and diagnostic data is retained by Firebase according to Google's retention policies — crash data is kept up to 90 days and aggregate analytics for a limited period.
Children
Poptonium is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date above. Significant changes will be reflected on this page.
